What is a Visionary Writer?

Hi! And Welcome to Writing & Thriving for Visionary Writers.

I’m Sally-Shakti, your Visionary Writing Guide.

If you’re reading this, I’m guessing that you identify yourself as a Visionary Writer, too. Or at least you might be feeling curious about what that means and whether it relates to you.

Do you have a deep calling to write, but you’re not sure exactly what you want to say? Or you know what you want to say, but you’re not sure how to say it?

Visionary Writers tend to be gathering at the forefront of new ideas, birthing new forms and possibilities through the work they are already doing in the world.

You might be working as a coach, a healer, a therapist, an artist, a creative, or another form of Soul-Centred Entrepreneur. You might be a student, a researcher, an academic, or somebody who is exploring new ways of thinking – or embodying thought – to bring an original contribution of knowledge to your field in ways that haven’t been explored before.

You’re likely to be writing transformational non-fiction that draws on your own practice or experience, to light the way for others who are ready to make that change in their own lives.

You might have an idea for a book-that-will-change-the-world, and you want to share your method or process with others who are also searching for new ways of being and belonging in an increasingly disconnected culture.

Probably, you’ve always been able to see with clear vision something that could help to make the world a better place than it is today. But it hasn’t always been easy to share that clarity with others and be taken seriously.

Our world is changing.

As we move, collectively, through these evolutionary shifts, more and more people are awakening to their own potential as co-creators of our shared reality. And that gives us all the power to intentionally participate in the new earth that is forming.

That means more and more people are ready and waiting for a voice like yours to share your wisdom.

It means that we are all here to co-create, and as we each step into our power to do so, we recognise also the power of every other being to co-create alongside us. So the power structures we have grown up with are increasingly falling away as each one of us steps up to take our rightful place in creative service and purpose.

It means that we are here to reclaim our birth-right as the powerful co-creators that we are.

As a Visionary Writer, you may feel this call strongly to create through your words and writing.

Maybe you have been told – like I was once – that people won’t need to write in the telepathic future, so what’s the point of writing now?

Writing is a form of co-creating. When we place our words onto the page and share them with the world, old structures fall away and new possibilities are formed.

Words are magick. But you know this. Spells are cast and light-code frequencies are held in the sound vibrations of our speech. And not only our speech. Our thoughts and writing, too. Have you ever noticed that you say the words in your head, as you read or write? This is called ‘subvocalisation’ – and it’s every bit as powerful as speaking spells out loud.

Visionary Writers, I believe, have a role to play in the shifting of the structures of our times – because writing has structure. Language is form.

So, if you’re ready to stop participating in the old ways and start to cultivate new forms through the words that you put down on the page; if you know, deep down in your heart and soul, that – somehow – you are here to change the world with your words: you can call yourself a Visionary Writer, and step this way…

This is a blog for Visionary Writers exactly like you.

The posts I share here will help you find your voice and manifest your vision through words. I’ll support you to release writer’s block and get your words onto the page, and into the world, where they belong. I’ll guide you to rewrite your story and discover the power of sharing your transformation with others. I’ll invite you to rewild your writing and explore expansive new forms of co-creation.

Writing my PhD in Utopian Poetics showed me what it means to be a writer. I wrote four books of poetry and a 50,000 word thesis, and I started journaling as a way to ground and heal myself.

While I was studying, I also wrote and maintained the Contemporary Small Press website, writing regular reviews of new fiction and poetry published by small presses. I was on the judging panel for the 2018 Republic of Consciousness Prize for literary fiction from the small presses. So I was reading a lot of great writing too. And I co-developed and taught a series of workshops called WELLBEING WHILE WRITING for doctoral researchers at the University of Westminster.

WELLBEING WHILE WRITING used practical techniques from Creative Writing pedagogy to support PhD students of all disciplines with the work of WRITING their thesis. I also used my knowledge and experience of yoga and meditation to provide MOVING & BREATHING FOR WELLBEING workshops to graduate students at the University.

I’ve been teaching English since 2004 and I’ve been teaching Creative Writing at the University of Westminster since 2017.
